Parents and Students, should review the following information together as a family! Question: Does ROBSI have School Standards and what are they? Answer: For example: - To treat each other with kindness, courtesy and respect - To participate in activities - To act in a safe manner - To follow the routines and standards of the camp (ex. On time for meals, maintaining cleanliness) - To help out when needed Question: What happens if a student misbehaves? Answer: We teach and encourage high standards of conduct at ROBSI. A conversation will be held with all students who misbehave to ensure that they understand what is expected of them. In the case of repeated unacceptable behavior, the following steps are taken: 1. We will warn the child and telephone the parent(s) advising them of the situation. If the unacceptable behavior continues: 2. We will telephone the parent or alternate contact who will be required to come and pick up the child from school immediately. There will be no refund of fees if a student is sent home due to misbehaviour. Question: Can I visit or telephone my child at school? Answer: We ask that you leave your child in our loving care. We do not encourage telephone calls or visits during the program as this distracts participants from fully focussing on the school environment. Should you have any concerns about your child while they are at ROBSI, please feel free to call the director at meal times. When picking up your child at the end of the program, take a minute and speak to the counselors and staff about how the week went. Question: What happens if a student experiences homesickness? Answer: Some children experience homesickness their first time away from home. For most this is a temporary problem that soon goes away as they begin to feel more secure and comfortable with their new friends in new surroundings. If your child is really unhappy about the prospect of being away, it may be better to wait another year before sending him or her. Under no circumstances should you send a child who really does not want to come! Question: What happens if a student arrives at ROBSI with head lice? Answer: Participants with head lice will be sent home. We DO NOT want to spread head lice to the other students. Question: If I live outside Canada do I need Health Insurance? Answer: Yes, any participant who does not have a valid Canadian Health card such as (eg. OHIP card) must have some other type of health insurance. Question: Am I allowed to bring electronics to ROBSI? Answer: No, we try to preserve the tranquility of nature and the interaction between students. We encourage students to tune in to the music of nature while at camp! Question: Is there a dress code at ROBSI? Answer: At ROBSI, we strive to make all our participants feel as comfortable as possible. Please pack to dress modestly. Question: Can I bring food or snacks to ROBSI? Answer: For the safety of all participants, please do not bring food items of any kind. Some of your fellow students may have serious food allergies and we also DO NOT want to attract animals at the cabins. We will provide all the delicious food you need! Question: Should participants label their belongings? Answer: Yes, please label all belongings clearly with student’s name. This will reduce the chance of someone packing up someone else's belongings by mistake at the end of the week. Question: Are there other important things I should be aware of? Answer: Yes, here a few suggestions of things to keep in mind. - Valuables are best left at home. - Please be sure to pack and clearly label all necessary medications and give to the Directors. - ROBSI provides all the equipment needed for our programs, so please do not bring any knives or matches to school. Any unnecessary items brought to ROBSI will be kept by the School Director and returned on the last day of the program. |
